Definition: What is Pallet Flow?

A pallet racking system designed for depth space, pallet flow uses a conveyor that is slightly inclined to make pallets or totes move easily along a sloped plane. Called also gravity flow or dynamic flow racking systems, the pallet flow system is frequently equipped with motion and braking systems to control the speed of the moving pallet.
A similar system, known as carton flow, is very similar to pallet flow but designed for carton-sized units. Sometimes called case flow, gravity flow or dynamic flow racking systems, it is often equipped with complex motion and braking systems to control the speed of moving cartons. Pallets or cases are loaded into the back of the rack and unloaded at the front. Pallet flow or case flow systems easily support first-in-first-out (FIFO) inventory management systems.
