Air Curtains

Air Curtains

Definition: Air Curtains

Definition: What are Air Curtains?

Air curtains, known also as air doors, are neither curtains nor doors. Rather, they are devices developed and used to stop air and/or contaminants from moving between two spaces. Most frequently, they consist of downward-facing blower fans mounted over building entrances or openings between two spaces whose temperatures are set to differ.
They can also be used as pneumatic barriers to contain spills — oil spills, in particular.
The blowers send out narrow streams of air across openings to stop the movement of hot or cold air, contaminants, and insects from one side to the other. Most commonly, air curtains operate in grocery store refrigerator cases, mall store fronts, and loading platforms.
